Claire MacCarron was announced last week as one of three national winners of the RFU Mitisbushi Volunteer of the Year award.
Claire who has done fantastic work with what has now become a thriving girls section has received the recognition that she fully deserves! Claire began the journey with only a couple of girls turning up on a Sunday morning, she has grown and developed this group of girls into three teams of and around thirty girls. Not only that three girls have been trailed and selected for the Dorset and Wiltshire RFU Girls County team. Claire has also been involved in promoting the sport of rugby and encouraging female participation as a whole, this was evident with school sessions at Kingdown school which resulted in over forty girls attending the after school sessions. That combined with the ‘inner warrior’ sessions designed to introduce females of all ages to give rugby a go! Club Captain Jimmy Rees commented ‘Claire’s passion of the sport and drive to involve females is totally inspiring! She has this infectious smile and enthusiasm which seems never ending, it keeps us all going’
Amongst all this hard work, Claire and her Pink Panthers have received numerous accolades. The team was nominated as a finalist for Wiltshire Sport Awards for Youth Team of the Year Award. Claire herself was presented by Warminster RFC as Club Person of the Year for all her efforts at the club and now she has been recognised by the RFU and Mitisbushi as Voulnteer of the Year!
We would like to congratulate Claire on receiving this fully deserved award! We hope she enjoys driving around in the new car for the next year courtesy of Mitisbushi! We would like to thank Claire and all the rest of our dedicated volunteers who keep our club going!
If your interested in joining the Pink Panthers come along to training on a Sunday morning from 10.30am or get in touch on the Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/WarminsterRFC/
