U12s Battled against North Dorset
By Jimmy Rees
U12s travelled to North Dorset looking to make a better account of themselves than the last time these teams met.
This fixture which has proved to be rather one sided in the past. This time however the Warminster players arrived with an extremely positive attitude and played with an intensity which had been missing in previous fixtures.
During the first quarter of the match the two teams were so evenly matched it took an unfortunate bounce of the ball to break the deadlock. A kick through from North Dorset seemed to be easily covered by two Warminster players, when the ball suddenly bounced sharply to the right, wrong footing both covering players and straight into the path of the chasing North Dorset player who dotted down for the first try.
Warminster were working hard in defence and managing to get many turn overs. It was as a result of one of these turn overs that Warminsters' first try came. After some great work at the breakdown by Thomas D and Jack, Archie passed the ball to Henry who broke through two tackles before offloading to Thomas L who raced down the wing evading a few more would be tacklers to score.
Warminster continued to play well and every player putting in some great tackles with Hayden making some great tackles.
North Dorset were beginning to find gaps in the Warminster defence just before half time and managed to cross the Warminster line after some fantastic play.
In the second half Warminster were unlucky again as they conceded two tries in quick succession both coming after some dubious refereeing decisions. The players were not deterred though and battled until the end. Final being rewarded with a second try after some great cover defence by Thomas the ball was collected by Jack and kicked cross field into arms of the winger who after using a strong hand off crossed for the try.
Warminster continued to play well with strong runs by Oliver and Ethan. Ryan almost scored a third but was bundled into touch a few meters short of the North Dorset line.
The final score was North Dorset 30 - Warminster 10 but this scoreline did not accurately reflect the game with coaches and spectators extremely impressed with the quality of rugby on display. Warminster should be extremely please with their performance and will hopefully continue to play with this newfound intensity.
Warminster Squad: Oliver, Archie P, Archie E, Jack S, Jack C,Thomas D, Thomas L, Ryan, Haydon, Ethan, Henry.
