U12s not good enough for North Dorset
U12s knocked out of the cup with an impressive display from North Dorset
On Sunday Warminster Under 12s travelled to North Dorset to compete in the first pool match of the Dorset and Wilts cup.
The weather was surprisingly excellent with sunshine and very little wind meaning conditions were excellent for running rugby.
Warminster knew they had to start well against North Dorset who are always a well drilled physical team.
Warminster received the kick off with Ryan gathering well. The North Dorset defence heaped pressure onto the Warminster players forcing a fumbled pass allowing North Dorset to pick up the fumbled ball and run through to score.
This was not the start Warminster needed. Unfortunately, this set the precedent for the first half. Whatever Warminster tried to do North Dorset were always on hand to capitalise on any mistake. Despite some courageous tackling by Thomas L and Thomas D and a superb cover tackle by Griff North Dorset managed to run in 6 tries before half time.
Warminster obviously decided enough was enough at half time and came out for the second half like a different team. Thomas L started the resurgence with a fantastic run strait through the North Dorset defence evading at least half the team to score a great individual effort. It wasn’t long before Matthew followed suit with a great run down the wing scoring in the corner. Matthew almost had another try moments later. Douglas collected the ball from inside his own half, used his strong hand off to evade three players and set Matthew off down the wing again. Unfortunately, this time he was tacked into touch. But Warminster kept coming. Matthew managing to get his second try after collecting a kick through from Henry.
North Dorset came back with several tries of their own keeping pace with Warminster. Warminster scored their final try a few moments before the final whistle. After a couple of runs from Oliver, Archie, Jack and Griff. Thomas D went on a trademark bullish run being brought down meters short of the North Dorset line. Warminster were able to secure quick ball with Thomas L picking up from the base of the ruck and diving over to score.
Warminster showed in the second half that they can play fantastic rugby at times. They just need to try to do it for the whole game. Training next week with plenty to work on. Get ready for some hard work boys!
The final score was North Dorset 10 - Warminster 4
