Weekend Preview

By Jimmy Rees

Looking into rugby action this weekend.

1st XV travel to Swindon to face Supermarine who currently sit bottom of Dorset & Wilt One North League. Warminster won’t be taking this game lightly as Supermarine at home are a different team. 1st XV will be looking to build on their great display last week and maintain their 100% record in 2019.

2nd XV will be hosting Bath Saracens at Folley Lane. 2nds will be looking to bounce back from their 39-19 defeat last week to Combe Down. This is will be so easy task visitors Saracens pushed league leaders Amesbury all the way last week.

Selection News:

Tom Evans is still out with his knee injury from the Pewsey Vale game. Sikeli Rokovunicagi is also unavailable this weekend. Other players unavailable Will Thomas will be sidelined for a few moths and will receive surgery on a knee injury. James Payne, Jason Sprangle, Jonny Edis and Kieron Plummer are also unavailable for Saturday games. With many unavailabilities it’s good to see scrum half Haydn Tryhorn will be returning to action this week. Sam Batchelor will also return to action this Saturday after a length stint on the sidelines due to injury. Reid Curtis returns this weekend. Also Andy Clarke, Jake Harvey, Dan Bagshaw-Wicket, Sam Bates and Ben Ryan are all available this weekend for selection.

Club captain Jimmy Rees commented on this weekends availability. ‘It’s great to see good availability for this Saturday, even with a large amount of players not available. It really shows that the club has a good depth of players’ Rees also discussed the expectations of the teams for Saturday ‘both teams will be targeting victories. The 1st XV are on a good run and need 5 points to keep up with the teams above us, whilst the 2nds will be looking to secure their first win of 2019’ The 2nd XV have started 2019 with a draw and loss, so it’s safe to say the 2nd XV are desperate for a victory.

In other action over the weekend, Sunday sees all age groups training at home. U6-U9s will be jointly training with Westbury. Warminster and Westbury U10s will be taking on Frome U10s at Folly Lane. U11s to Colts will also be training at Folly Lane. Pink Panthers will be at a super cluster event at North Dorset RFC.
